The North Miami Police Department claimed they’d received a call about a man in the street with a gun that was threatening suicide. Instead Police encountered Charles Kinsey a Mental Health Care Taker in Miami, FL who was simply there to retrieve one of his patients who had escaped a near by mental health facility at which he worked at.
Kinsey felt as though he’d be alright if he’d calmly explain who he & his patient was and kept his hands in the air to show he wasn’t a threat. Instead of being met with respect and understanding a single North Miami Police officer decided he’d fire off two rounds, towards Kinsey & his autistic patient.
One bullet hit Kinsey in his right leg as he stood there with his hands up and he laid down in shock the same way, with his hands still in the air. He say’s he’d asked the officer, “Why did you shoot me?” and his response was I don’t know.. Now the officer who fired off the rounds has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending an investigation of the event.
I can’t see how they can justify not charging the officer in this shooting, considering from the video that was released it could be perceived as attempted murder in broad daylight. Because no question that Charles Kinsey nor his patient were a threat to anyone. Thankfully he survived and can live to tell his side of the stroy, watch the interview Kinsey gave from his hospital bed.
North Miami Police Statement: “Arriving officers attempted to negotiate with the two men on the scene, one of whom was later identified as suffering from autism… At some point during the on-scene negotiation, one of the responding officers discharged his weapon.”
