Singer & Songwriter Chrisette Michele has had a tough couple of weeks, and it all started once people discovered she’d be apart of the Trump Inauguration Performances. The week leading up to her scheduled performance, several unhappy people popped up on her social media, sharing their disdain for her decision to perform.
People kept commenting that she sold her soul, or sold out for $750,000.00. When I saw that amount, I thought it a bit absurd and excessive for an Inaugural Performance. And if it wasn’t for the interview she’d done with Billboard clearing that up, I wouldn’t have know I was on to something. Chrisette admits in her interview she was paid, just not that much and left it at that.
I’ll start by saying that I have a lot of activists, a lot of people who are Black Panthers, in my family, I’ve got a lot of people who marched, and watching these marches and watching the older people in my family have to experience [these times] was, for lack of a better word, traumatizing
She also went onto say that her family had disowned her because of her decision to perform for Trump and went into depth about her thoughts surrounding her decision to perform.
